Our Work

Connecting the social to the cellular to advance population health.

ABOUT US

Welcome to the Biosocial Research Collaborative (BRC)!

We are a team of researchers from across disciplines, programs, institutions, and backgrounds who come together in the Social Environment and Health Program at the Institute for Social Research at the University of Michigan.

Under the leadership of Dr. Grace Noppert and Dr. Kate Duchowny, we think, work, and learn together with the goal of creating collaborative, high-quality, cutting-edge population health research.

Advancing Population Health Research

At the Biosocial Research Collaborative (BRC), we investigate how social and biological factors interact to shape health across the lifespan. Our work explores the intersections of social determinants, biology, and aging to inform innovative public health solutions.

Social Stress and Biological Aging

We examine how chronic stress, social factors, and socioeconomic conditions influence biological aging processes, from immune function to cellular health.

Neighborhoods and Health Disparities

Our research explores how physical and social environments shape health outcomes, particularly in aging populations, and how policies can reduce these disparities.

Lifecourse and Intergenerational Health

We study how early-life experiences and exposures influence health trajectories across generations, helping to identify pathways for intervention and prevention.
